Bird Island

Map of SeychellesBird Island is a small coral cay of 70 hectares surrounded by 5km of white coral sandy beaches. It is the most northerly of the Seychelles, 105km from Mahé. The island is on the edge of the Seychelles Bank. Hawksbill and Green turtles visit the beaches from October through February and, from May to October to deposit their eggs. Around 2 million migrant sooty terns breed and nest on the island. The most famous of the 13 giant Aldabra tortoises roaming the island is Esmeralda, the world's oldest tortoise, who weighs 304 kg.
